A female child aged 1 year and 6 months was brought to me after confirming that the child is infected with Dengue. Initially was treated with modern medicines from their family physician for five days , then he advised to undergo blood tests which confirmed dengue fever.

When they brought the child to me, fever is continuous, subsided for 6 hours with antipyretics prescribed by the physician and relapsed again and again. Temperature – 102 F. Pulse was 104/min. The Child looked very tired and drowsy, sleeps 5-6 hours in the morning. The child presented unusual irritability and peevishness, wants to be carried always.. I observed the fever had started after their return from Karaikudi, a dengue prevalent area in south Tamil Nadu. Physically the child presented scanty perspiration, finds difficulty while passing stool.

Tiredness and sleepiness, child sleeps for 5 – 6 hours in morning which was not there previously when healthy. I found that they returned from the native place, Karaikudi on 25th May, 2012, on the same day fever started. The investigation reports suggested (Refer Plate I)
