Srilankan Cabinet nods for new Homoeopathy Act

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the introduction of a new Act replacing the Homoeopathy Act No 7 of 1970 to promote the homoeopathy system of medicine in the country. Under the new Act, a separate College of Medicine will be established for homoeopathy system of medicine with the approval of the University Grants Commission. The government will also set up a Homoeopathy Council of Medicine and register homoeopathy institutions and pharmacists dealing with the Homoeopathy system of medicine.

The Indigenous Medicine Ministry will take action to train homoeopathy physicians, provide their services to patients and ensure the supply of medicine with the correct standard in addition to taking steps to popularise the system. According to the new Act, the government will recognise those having the recognition of the Medical Council of Sri Lanka and the foreign educated with recognition in Medical Councils abroad.
