docs' Cancer protocol |

KOLKATA, Feb. 24 - A pioneering
cancer care protocol, developed by a city - based father - son homoeopath
duo, has been taken up for research by the National Institute of Health
( NIH ) of the US.
The project, considered a
major achievement for Indian system of homoeopathy, will be carried out
in two - and - a - half years. The research will focus on collecting scientific
data and analysing them to judge their veracity.
The protocol, developed by Prasanta
Banerji and his son Pratip Banerji of the P.B. Homeopathic Research Foundation,
caught the attention of NIH's cancer advisory panel for complementary
and alternative medicine ( CAPCAM ). On Friday, CAPCAM announced the appointment
of a medical research firm to carry out the research on its behalf.
"The research through Contractual
Research Organisation (CRO) will begin soon. We were satisfied to see
preliminary reports and documentation of four of their patients,"
claimed Jeffery D. White, director of the office of cancer complementary
and alternative medicine at NIH's national cancer institute.
"When the doctors presented
a few cases of cancer cure under our 'best case' series in 1998, we found
the protocol striking and unusual. Since then, we have been interested
in researching it and generating more data," he said. The centre,
which encourages research in bright areas of complementary and alternative
medicine, will compile data on radiographic and pathological studies of
30 lung cancer patients undertaking the protocol at the clinic.
After providing financial aid and
support for radiographic examination according to the protocol, the institute
would compile the data at the end of the study and, if found positive,
recommend them for FDA approval, White added.
