DROSERA ROTUNDIFOLIA is a very popular remedy for treatment of Pertusis
because it has marked action upon the respiratory organs by its influence
on the pneumogastric nerve. It is a drug prepared from Droseraceae family.
The affection on respiratory organs was pointed out by Hahnemann as the
principal remedy for whooping-cough. Laryngeal phthisis is benefited by
it.
When the sheep’s take the leaves of Drosera plant, they immediately
produce severe night coughs. In many cases, this cough may ends their
life. Thus, it is a good medicine for night cough (Whooping).
Drosera, belongs to the family - Droseraceae. It’s common name is
“Sundew”. It is a perennial herb, grows mostly on or sides
of water & peculiarly has got the tendency to eat small flying insects
probably due to deficiency of Phosphorus and Calcium in the plant.
The Plant consumes the small flying insects with the help of its specially
designed leaves, which looks like tentacles. The leaves are found in clustered
form with hairy petioles. Leaves are covered with long, reddish, viscid
hairs on their upper surfaces.
Each of these hair bears a small gland at the tip which when exposed to
sun, exudates clear shining juices. Due to the shining nature of the juices
in sun rays, the Drosera is otherwise known as “Sundew”. The
insects are attracted by the shining of juices & when they sit up
on the leaves, the tentacles, slowly close & kill the insects.
Pathogenesis - It provides spasmodic dry cough, stimulating whooping cough
and common respiratory Symptoms
It has following symptoms:
- The patient of Drosera is
very chilly having Tubercular diathesis and psoric background.
- Its whooping cough is with
violent paroxyms which follows one another rapidly.
- Cough usually at night.
- The character of cough is
deep, sounding, hoarse barking cough. The cough is spasmodic with gagging,
retching and vomiting.
- During cough there is vomiting
of water, mucous and bleeding from nose and mouth.
- Violent tickling in the larynx
brings on cough that makes the patient get up from sleep, which comes
on every few hours.
- During cough face of child
becomes purple and copious sweat all over the body.
- Generally there is no expectoration
but if expectoration the colour of sputum is yellowish or greenish.
Modality
<After midnight, lying down, on getting warm in bed, drinking, singing
and laughing
Comments of
Pioneers
- Master Hahnemann advises
that a single dose of 30th Potency cures with in 7 or 8 days and not
to repeat which spoils the cure.
- Richard Hughes has also confirmed
the correctness of Hahnemann’s observations about Drosera
- Dr. M.L. Tyler says that
Drosera is a classical laryngeal remedy, and the great remedy in whooping
cough. Drosera Rotundifolia can break down resistance to tubercle and
should therefore be capable of raising it.
