When
Veratrum Album is required for Mania?

Veratrum Album is a strong antipsoric remedy to prevent the recurrence of
mania. According to Dr.Hahnemann, “Mania is a mental disease, appearing
suddenly by flaring of latent psora”. Sec: 221§. Veratrum Album
has very strong mental symptoms, “Mania with desire to cut and tear
things, especially clothes, with lewdness and lascivious talk (or) amorous”.
Even though here the choice remedy for above mind symptoms
covers the veratrum album, it should not be given immediately at first.
In the first place it should be treated by administering highly potentised,
minute, homoeopathic doses of Acute medicines (e.g.: Aconite, Belladonna,
Stramonium, Hyocyamus, Mercury etc.,) ® Sec (221 §).
According to James Tyler Kent the above acute remedies are
“APSORICS” will revert psora to its former latent state. Here
stramonium and Hyocyamus have similar mental states in their pathogenesy
[Loquacious, religious, violent Mania]. This will revert psora to its former
latent state.
After administration of Antipsorics, no time should be lost
in perfecting the cure by means of Antipsoric remedy (Veratrum Album).
