supriya has just completed her Degree Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine
and Surgery at Government Homoeopathic Medical College, Tirumangalan and
doing her internship. She is a very enthusiastic academician and written
many articles, had also participated in many social, cultural activities.
Communication as we find, is not
only and always by means of sound or by language. Most patients have few
words to narrate their complaints. Mostly they express themselves unknowingly
by their gestures. A true physician and especially a homoeopathic have
to begin his case taking as the patient enters his room.
Non –verbal communication is a way whereby the qualities of the
person is being ensured by his gestures, posture, manner of Walt, and
his way of communication with the doctor. even a person may tell lie but
his body in most occasions expresses out clearly his inner state.
Body is just like a mirror either reflecting the derangement of mental
health or just gives clue of the inner state of mind. So by knowing these
gestures & language one can easily find the nature of the patient
by seeing itself. Confirmation can be done by putting right question.
Hereby I would like to attempt to explain simple & single gestures.
1. PALM RUBBING GESTURES:
This person may have positive expectations
from others. The speed at which he rubs his palms together may be a measure
of positive results occurring to a person infront of whom the palms are
being rulled. This is given in Fig.1.
2. HOLDING HANDS CLENCHED
INFRONT OF FACE:
This may show that the person may
be of evaluating
once. Tws is seen in Fig.2.

3.HOLDING HANDS CLENCHED RESTING
ON THE DESK:
This may show that the person was an Authoritative. This is seen
in Fig.3.
Note: Most of these gestures are apt to 90% of the patients but
further evaluation is only upto the physician.
Miasmatic Diagnosis:
Some gestures may also pave way for miasmatic diagnosis. For example:
Psoric patient who is restless shows himself by certain gestures
like shaking hands and legs.
Syphilitic patient being also in action sycotic patient is being
very suspicious shows himself by his eye signals & evaluating
gestures.
These are very common in practice. Even “Dr. Kent” in
his “Repertory of the homoeopathic Materia Medica” on
chapter ‘MIND’ gives one rubric “GESTURES”.
For Example:
1. Hands, grasping, by standers, at: - Phos
2. Hands, motions, rubbing together: - cann-I
3. Hands, motions, playing with his fingers: -Hyos
4. Hands, motions, pulls hairs of by stranders: -Bell
5. Hands, crossing the hands: - Mosch
These gestures are just hints from the patients without any verbal
communication and only this will not give way for the selection
of similimum but it adds more information about the patient,. Thus
selected similimum suits more to the patient by further case taking
and conversation.
Each individual has skills in noting these gestures but to make
it more useful towards homoeopathic prescription it is more based
on the physician skill.
Through this small paper I would like to kindle the young flowering
Homoeopaths not even to miss these king of hinds when a patient
enters your clinic. Hope so this article may be simple or small
enough to provide a new way or kindle new interest in the field
of homoeopathy and its prescription. |
