Baryta falls in Alkaline earth group. Its high atomic number develops the expression of the syphilitic miasm in a big way. The syphilitic miasm expresses itself in the form of degenerative changes.
Baryta Carb is a remedy which can be prescribed at all stages of life – childhood, adulthood, old age, but it is most commonly indicated in children.
The dwarfishness is seen not only on the physical level but on the emotional and mental level as well. By dwarfishness we do not mean that Baryta Carb is routinely prescribed for people who are short in stature, or for actual dwarfs. It is not indicated in people with quick intelligence and strong vitality. Baryta Carb dwarfishness on the physical plane refer more specifically to conditions in which specific organ have not fully developed especially genitalia. Or the uterus may remain child sized even in adult hood. Delayed development in general is strong element in Baryta Carb.
We can have a syphilitic trait. At birth the infant may have a cleft palate or valvular defect in the heart or defect in the development of the brain. Due to the confusion created at the temporal level, there is no balance. In the growing infant, the fontanelles are found to remain open too long. You make them stand on their feet and teach them to walk, but they simply do not seem to comprehend that they are supposed to put one foot in front of the other.

In the school- going child and adult, due to the confusion at the qualitative level, the school progress reports are poor and the child is declared dull. He does not find mental as well as physical work interesting. His perception is poor. Since the resistance of the body is decreased, susceptibility to various infections is increased. The defect in the blood cells formations result in the development of serious diseases like leukemia and Hodgkin’s disease.
The syphilitic miasm dominates the scene from infancy to old age. Early graying of hair and ageing is frequent, the person appearing older than what he is Arteriosclerosis sets in quite early. Hardening of the arteries gives rise to the systolic hypertension.
