Baryta carb patients are of two kinds.

      The Baryta carb children usually look old for their age and on the other hand the old people who become childish in their behavior, with old age cropping up prematurely. It is suited to both the extremes of the life, the childhood and old age.

Baryta carb Child

      The keynote of child is ‘Dwarfishness’ this does not mean small in stature alone, but dwarfishness of mind especially. The children are late coming into usefulness or activity late with their studies, late learning to talk, late learning to read & enter late into life. They have late walking not because of weak limbs or poor bones, it’s because he is late in learning. They cannot memorize or they cannot maintain a thought. The mother wonders whether the child is ever going to learn something. The teacher at school also reports that the child lacks capacity.

      When a Baryta carb child enters the clinic, he will keep the hand up over the face and peep out through the fingers. He is very bashful, timid and easily frightened. Due to this bashfulness the child will be seen hiding behind the furniture when some guests come to meet him. He feels that it is he they are talking about or laughing about.

      Due to his timid mind, he does not even pay attention to his dolls or his friends. He sits and sits for hours at the corner of the room and stares constantly. There is constant whining

      The infant looks like a little old person, with lean, emaciated body, pot-bellied abdomen and withered face, with marasmus.

Baryta Carb old People

      They are people who have attained old age prematurely, with baldness at young age. They are dejected, unsociable; they suffer from loss of memory leading to presenile dementia. There is early mental impairment as a result of masturbation. There is diminished sexual desire or premature impotency.

      Mentally there is ‘want of clear consciousness’ it means, he is not clear in his intellect. It leads to imbecility. It is seen as a man under seventy becoming childish. They do and say things like a child. They play with dolls and do foolish things. There is weakness of digestion, with swelling and induration of glands at neck and groin, tonsillitis and constant headache.
