Tonsillitis…Differential Diagnosis

Baryta Carb patients are easily prone to Tonsillitis, sore throat and Quinsy, Predisposing factors include taking cold, suppressed foot sweat. The pharynx looks shiny, studded with coarse granules, which become inflamed with every cold spell. Tonsil Inflammed, swollen and suppurated . Smarting pain when swallowing, can only swallow liquids. Right side affection

This remedy can be compared with other remedies which are commonly indicated for tonsillitis.

  1. Calc.Carb: Inflammatory swelling of tonsils with sensation as if throat is constricted.During swallowing pain in throat extends to the ear.
  2. Cal.Phos: Chronic cases with inflammation of middle ear. Throat pains are more when swallowing saliva than food. Chronic cases; Bone disease.
  3. Calc.Iod: Hypertrophy of tonsils, Chronic enlargement and induation of tonsils, swellings of lymph glands in general. Tonsils filled with little crypts and pockets.
  4. Hep.Sulph: Chronic cases with hardness of hearing sensation like a fish-bone in throat.
  5. Ignatia: Large tonsils with small, flat ulcer on them. Pain during the act of swallowing.
  6. Conium Mac: Chronic cases, tonsils hard and indurated without any tendency for suppuration.
  7. Lachesis: Dark, purple appearance of tonsils with unhealthy pus, left side is affected, liquid causes more pain than solids.
  8. Lycopodium: Large tonsils studded with indurated ulcers specially right side affection.
  9. Merc.Sol: Tonsils greatly swollen, at the verge of suppuration at times; often covered with thin false membrane. Tonsils darkened and studded with ulcer.
  10. Silicea: Tonsils swollen, suppurating, non-healing, throat feels as if filled up, he cannot swallow.
  11. Belladonna: Tonsillitis comes on with rapidity, Bright red tonsils.
  12. Chamomilla: Ear is involved & person is ameliorated by application of heat.
